Adventures in Prague
We've just come back from a break in Prague yesterday.
The first night at the hotel, we had two pillows, one on each bed. And you can guess what's coming next, can't you? ;) We asked for more pillows at reception. I asked for 2 extra ones. They said I could have one that first night and one the next night, LOL! John very gallantly gave up his pillow that first night so I could sleep a bit higher up.
There was a fridge in the room, but it was empty and not plugged in. There was a mini-bar list on top of the fridge. It was only as we were leaving that we saw the small print at the bottom, if you wanted anything, you had to ring down to reception and they'd bring it up. I'm not sure the hotel quite understood the concept of a mini-bar :)
It was a lovely city and we had beatiful weather the whole time we were there. We missed it, but there had been an exhibition on of Tim Burton's props, costumes, drawings etc. but we never found the gallery where it was.
We walked quite a bit, wandering around the old town and across the Charles Bridge to the castle and we took the metro and then a bus out to the zoo. I don't even think we saw half of it, but our feet were too sore to wander much more, it was on lots of hills.
Our flight wasn't until late on Wednesday, so we went to the cinema in the afternoon for something to do, we saw Maleficient (the only one showing in English at the time we wanted). It was quite good, but not gritty enough. If you hadn't known before going in, after seeing it you would know it was Disney, LOL!
We lost our camera in the taxi to the airport, so no photos to share I'm afraid. John emailed the hotel to see if the taxi driver had handed it in, but he hadn't. It's gone for good I think.
Because our flight was so late on Weds, we booked a hotel near Stansted airport. When we got to the Travelodge, it was just after midnight and then they told us they had to 'out book us' because they had some maintenence problems with the room. Instead, they'd booked us a room at Chelmsford, 30 miles away in the other direction to home! We weren't happy bunnies, I can tell you! We just drove home in the end, rather than drive for 45 mins in the wrong direction.
We've been decorating a bit, our bedroom gets painted tomorrow and then we only have the kitchen and the ensuite left to do. The kitchen shouldn't take as long as the cupboards take up quite a bit of wall space. My parents, sister, brother-in-law and youngest niece and two nephews are coming over on the 25th of June, so we have to juggle a bit with the bedrooms, but I think we'll just about manage to fit everyone in.
And then there is the Road not Travelled Fest at Snape-Potter so I will see if I can fit something in for that as well. It's going to be a busy summer :)
